"Ashford," Adam's voice echoed throughout the house. "Ashford where are you." The intercom system was the only way Ashford and his son could communicate when under the same roof and not in the same room. Adam didn't like the intercom at first, he thought it was to impersonal. He felt that he should speak to his son face to face when he wanted to tell him something, even if it was simply for Ashford to come to dinner. In this case, it was to tell him that he would be taking the dogs for a walk on the beach.
"I'm in the ball room, dad" Ashford's voice rang out after a few moments.
"I'm going out to walk the dogs, are you coming?"
For a few moments, all Adam could hear was Ashford's heavy breathing, "Nope," he finally said. He must have thought hard about his decision.
"I'll be back later then, mind the nanny."
"Okay"
He loved his boy. Adam turned from the little white box mounted on the cream colored wall of his bedroom, and entered the threshold of his walk in closet. Adam had a lot of clothes, more clothes than one might expect. He didn't really enjoy shopping that much, he hardly ever did it in an actual store. Adam was more of a point and click man, especially for anything that wasn't a suit. Most of the time he went into a store knowing exactly what he was going to buy. He was an efficient shopper with a Visa Signature card. Today though was casual. He whipped the towel off his still dripping body and grabbed one of his favorite green tshirts from the shelf. For a moment he paused in front of the full length mirror. His reflection looked good. Pulling the tshirt over his head, he reached over and grabbed a pair of boxer briefs and denim jeans.
"c'mon, c'mon boy." Adam said, razzling his four year old german sheppard. The Pages had two dogs. There was Benji, a german sheppard whom Adam and Natalie adopted from the pound, and Boo, a little puggle Adam had gotten Ashford for Christmas. Adam stood up and threw on his brown jacket, before opening the back door slider and stepping out onto the grass. "c'mon now, let's not take all day." he said, putting two fingers between his lips and whistling for his two dogs to come hither. Now Adam was a city boy by nature, he only moved out to paradise for one real reason. The ocean. His uncle's estate happened to have an incredible view of the great blue pacific. The lawn out back spanned about 50 yards before dropping off into paradise's white sand beach.
Adam took the dogs out for long walks along the beach almost everyday. Benji and Boo were well trained, they didn't need leashes. They roamed free on the long stretch of beach running to and fro, circling around Adam, jumping up and down, splashing in the water. It was a crisp cool day on the beach, not everyday was perfect in paradise. It was overcast, but believe it or not that was the way Adam liked the beach. As much as he loved sunshine and babes in bikinis, he liked the beach the most in the winter time. It was quiet, and more private. The waves crashed, and Adam looked out at the surf. There was something about the water.
They had been walking along the beach for quite awhile. Adam looked back and could barely see his house in the horizon. Ashford wouldn't miss him, he had the ball room and Leap Frog. He reached down and picked up a piece of driftwood, sizing it up in his hand for a moment before tossing it as far as he could down the beach. His dogs took off side by side, racing together. Adam stood there and shoved his hands in his pockets as he watched then streak down the stretch of sand.
